According to the Lagos State Emergency Agency, four people died and five were rescued alive after a building collapsed in the state on Saturday.
Nosa Okunbor, LASEMA's Head of Public Affairs, announced this in a statement issued on Sunday titled, 'Final Update on the collapsed four-story building on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 4 Alayaki Lane, Lagos Island.'
"Five adult males were rescued (alive) and taken to nearest hospitals for further treatment after several hours of intense overnight Search and Rescue Operation coordinated by the Permanent Secretary LASEMA, Dr Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, and combined efforts of three LASEMA Response Teams from Lekki, Cappa, and the Alausa Command Control Center," he said.
"However, after being deposited at the mortuary, four adult males were recovered (dead), bagged, and handed over to officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit, SEHMU, to be processed further." The Agency then used its heavy-duty equipment-the Excavator-to take the remains of the self-collapsed four-story building down to ground zero, eliminating any further threat to lives and all other nearby properties. LASAMBUS, LASG Fire Service, LABCA, SEHMU, Federal Fire Service, NEMA, Red Cross, LNSC, and NPF are among the other primary responders on the scene.

Further investigation into the incident revealed that the collapsed building under construction was located within a compound and was a frame structure at the time of the incident, according to Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the Zonal Coordinator South-West, National Emergency Management Agency.
He stated that the third suspended slab concrete was already in place, with internal partitioning ongoing. "The building collapsed around 1:45 p.m. Saturday during a downpour."
"The building was bequeathed to family members, and some of them awarded it to a developer who was converting the bungalow building into a three-story building before it collapsed," Farinloye explained.
According to the NEMA chief, the building is located on Alayaki Lane, which contains a cluster of buildings, and the rescue operation was hampered by a lack of space. He stated that no one has claimed that a relative is missing as of yet.
